It was a day of fun, food and friends at the inaugural Emerald Great Outback BBQ, held earlier this month. Approximately 120 people gathered at the Capricornia School of Distance Education to celebrate, raising $300 for Frontier Services.

The Emerald Remote Area Families Service team joined with the school to host the BBQ and set up a display of toys, photos, board games and puzzles to entertain the children.

Many local businesses kindly donated food for the BBQ including Emerald Quality Meats who supplied sausages and Woolworths who gave a gift voucher to cover the cost of salads and bread rolls.

The highlight for the Emerald RAFS team was the chance to connect and catch up with families, many of which had travelled hundreds of kilometers to support the work of Frontier Services and stayed the night in tents and swags.

“It was a brilliant day; there was a lot of support. Families from the outstations came and camped. It was like a swag city! There were also families that came in from out of town to support Frontier Services,” said Renee Rudd, Field Coordinator for Emerald RAFS.

Much gratitude must go to the local Emerald-Fernlees Uniting Church and Rev Suzy Sitton who was instrumental in organising the day that received significant positive feedback from the Emerald community.
