Calling for Outback Links Volunteers

We’re calling on skilled Aussie workers to lend a hand in the bush. Take some time off and have a holiday of hope by joining our on-the-ground program, Outback Links. Sign up to be an Outback Links Volunteer.

Outback Links provides skilled and experienced volunteers to help with day-to-day work on remote properties around Australia, when families need an extra pair of hands which is especially needed now during the drought.

Our National Director, Jannine Jackson says the burden of the drought has taken its toll on families doing it tough, “Not only do drought conditions mean that farming families are spending additional time pumping or shipping water and feeding stock, which can take most of the day, but many younger family members have moved into full-time roles in towns and cities across Australia, to earn extra income so additional helping hands are needed through programs like Outback Links so things can get done”.

If you are interested in helping out, Outback Links has immediate needs for the following volunteers in rural and regional Australia over the coming months.

  1. General maintenance/handyman – repairs
  2. Ties in with a general trade – plumbing for pumps, windmill repairs, etc.
  3. Manual labour particularly fencing skills/experience
  4. Teaching and child minding
  5. Stock handling

Volunteers help wherever needed. Tasks include but are not limited to: general house duties, childcare, maintenance, mechanics, plumbing, painting, fencing, stock work and admin. Register to become a volunteer today!

Jannine Jackson says often the volunteers find it as rewarding as rural communities they work in, “Volunteers help out for short periods of time, usually around one to two weeks but it can be a life changing experience for all concerned and lasting friendships are made”.

“If you would like to volunteer but can’t take time out of your busy life, then donate or sign up for a Great Outback BBQ to help us raise money to provide this critical support”
