Bush Chaplaincy

For over a century, Frontier Services has been guided by Reverend John Flynn’s vision—a mantle of safety that reaches even the most isolated corners of Australia. Our Bush Chaplaincy program is a testament to that enduring commitment, delivering practical, pastoral, and spiritual care directly to people living in remote communities.

Living and Working in the Outback

Our dedicated Bush Chaplains live and work where many services simply cannot reach. Day after day, they travel thousands of kilometres to be on the frontline—responding to natural disasters, offering support through a crisis, and providing comfort in everyday challenges. Whether it’s lending an ear over a cuppa, connecting residents to essential services, or simply being a trusted presence in times of hardship, our Bush Chaplains make a tangible difference in the lives of those they serve.

Impacting Lives Through Connection

In remote areas where isolation and limited access to healthcare and community resources are the norm, the presence of a Bush Chaplain is transformative. They not only help individuals during emergencies—be it floods, droughts, or bushfires—but also nurture long-term relationships that build resilient communities. By bridging the gap between people and critical support services, our Bush Chaplains contribute to better mental wellbeing, stronger community ties, and a more equitable spread of care across Australia’s vast outback.

Join Us on Our Journey

Every day, Frontier Services’ Bush Chaplains embody the spirit of care, compassion, and resilience that defines life in the bush. Their work reminds us that no one is ever truly alone, no matter how remote the location. We invite you to be part of this journey—through volunteering, donations, or simply sharing our story. Together, we can continue to extend a helping hand to those who need it most and ensure that every corner of Australia feels the warmth of a caring community.

Honouring a Rich Legacy of Care

Our work is deeply rooted in a proud tradition. With recent appointments—including the inspiring leadership of new First Nations Bush Chaplains in central Australia and the APY lands—we continue to honor our legacy by adapting to the evolving needs of rural communities. Their culturally sensitive, grassroots approach not only preserves vital connections to Country but also empowers communities to thrive despite isolation.
