We’re calling for urgent on-the-ground help

We’re calling on all Aussies for urgent support to assist the growing and critical need in the bush at the launch of our biggest fundraising event – the Great Outback BBQ – held through the month of September.

Founded by Rev Dr John Flynn, the man who also founded the Royal Flying Doctors Service and the School of the Air, we provide on-the-ground practical support in the form of Bush Chaplains and skilled volunteers to rural, remote and regional communities.

Our National Director, Jannine Jackson says Bush Chaplains are working overtime to meet the demand, “They are telling us that the only water seen for miles is the tears shed on pillows each night as farmers worry about their own future and the future of their families”.

“We need to rally and help them; not many understand that these farmers face weeks and weeks with no physical contact. It is so important that contact is made face-to-face when times are tough and that is what our Bush Chaplains and volunteers do”.

This September, we are asking Australians to hold their own BBQ to promote mateship and show their solidarity with Outback Australia.

“The Great Outback BBQ combines the popular Aussie tradition of gathering around the BBQ with the opportunity to lend your support to people living in the most isolated parts of the country. It’s fun and easy to do, but more importantly, the funds raised can make a real difference,” said Jannine.
