The May edition of Frontier News has just been released. In this edition we focus on ‘Women in the Outback’; their lives, loves, struggles and work.

Some of the women of remote Australia who share their stories are: Samantha Pursehouse, a young woman in her twenties, who, with her husband David, volunteered in our Outback Links program. Samantha’s story of self-discovery will move you.

Diane Bilka is Frontier Services longest serving nurse. Diane is based in Andamooka, an Opal mining town of South Australia. Her story of the impact of a nurse in a remote community will enlighten and delight you. Meanwhile one of our former AIM (Australian Inland Mission) nurses, Beth Ireland (nee Forrest) shares her memories of what it was like being a nurse back in the 1950’s.

From the Snowy River Patrol, high in the Victorian Alps we profile Rev Rowena Harris who is a vital link in bringing together local communities, particularly during and after natural disasters like the Victorian bushfires. We also talk to Rio Tinto General Manager Tom Price and Marandoo Sinead Kauffman who works closely with Rev John Dihm in the Pilbara. Station owner Sharon Betts shares her story of life, love and loss on the land, Mary Anne Callinan talks rally driving from Sydney to London and a final reflection from retiring Patrol Minister Rev Jenny Swanbury.
