Frontier Services has welcomed the opportunity to take on the ownership of Hetti Perkins Home for the Aged in Alice Springs.

Frontier Services entered into a significant new partnership with former operators Aboriginal Hostels Ltd (AHL) last year to assume responsibility for the hostel.

The decision to transfer ownership was made to allow AHL to concentrate on its core business of providing housing for Indigenous people who must live away from home to access study or medical care.

Regional Manager NT Sharon Davis said Frontier Services was excited to take on the responsibility of the service as part of its ongoing relationship with AHL.

“Frontier Services was approached by AHL to take on the operation of Hetti Perkins Home and we have accepted this invitation.”

“It is a wonderful opportunity for Frontier Services to be involved in the care of the clients at Hetti Perkins Home.”

Ms Davis said Frontier Services was committed to the continued quality care of the residents at Hetti Perkins Home that was sensitive to the cultural background of the residents.

“AHL has done a great job with Hetti Perkins Home, particularly as this was the only aged care service they were operating.”

Under the new arrangement, Frontier Services will maintain the same cultural elements which are integrated into the care of the clients.

The Home has a camp fire where residents can sit and listen to their favourite music.

Traditional bush medicine is an important feature in the care of the clients. Many residents request visits from the Nunkari (bush medicine man), who prescribes traditional medicine for ailments like aching legs and joints.

“The name of the service remains unchanged in recognition of the outstanding contribution of Hetti Perkins and her standing in the community.”

Ms Davis said Frontier Services brought an extensive network of support to Hetti Perkins Home.

“As part of the wider Frontier Services network, staff at Hetti Perkins Home will be able to draw on training opportunities, quality resources and a wide network of support.”

Frontier Services is the largest provider of aged and community care in remote Australia, managing 12 residential aged care services across the Northern Territory and Western Australia and providing a wide range of respite and in-home care services.
